The Meatpacking District in New York is a relatively small neighborhood in the borough of Manhattan. The district has its own unique atmosphere and there are several fun things to do, such as a visit to the Chelsea Market, where you can enjoy delicious food and drinks. But the Meatpacking District is also the perfect place for a day of shopping.

The Meatpacking District takes its name from the many meat distributors who once lived there and worked in industrial warehouses. Today, the Meatpacking District is a hip and trendy area in the western tip of Manhattan. Roughly speaking, the neighborhood runs from West 14th Street to Gansevoort Street, and from the Hudson River to Hudson Street. You will find small boutiques, nightclubs and restaurants everywhere in the district. One of the highlights of the Meatpacking District is the city park “the Highline” and Chelsea Market.

A special place in the Meatpacking District in New York is the High Line park, also called The High Line. This special park was previously an abandoned railway line, which has now been converted into a fantastically beautiful city walking park with all kinds of plants, works of art and impressive views of the city and the Hudson River. The High Line line runs from Gansevoort to 34th Streets.

Whitney Museum of American Art

The Whitney Museum in the Meatpacking District is a museum that focuses on American art from the twentieth century. The museum’s striking modern building houses an impressive collection of more than 22,000 modern and contemporary American works of art, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs and videos. The museum also has a nice roof terrace with a view of the Hudson River, where you can enjoy a snack and a drink, especially in the summer.

Gansevoort Market in the Meatpacking District,

Gansevoort Markt is a covered marketplace in the Meatpacking District, whose origins date back to 1884 when it was still a farmers’ market. Today you can go there for trendy food from places like Gotham Poké, Big Gay Ice Cream and Chick’nCone, but you will also find lots of delicious local products. And although there are not as many stalls as at Chelsea Market, there is plenty of choice.

Chelsea Market in the Meatpacking District used to be a cookie factory, but today it is one of the largest food markets in the world! It is very nice to walk through here for a nice breakfast, lunch or a cup of coffee. popular hotspots include Amy’s Bread, Ninth Street Espresso and Los Tacos No.1.

For something more active you can walk a few blocks away to Chelsea Piers, where you will find a huge activity center with a bowling alley, an ice skating rink open all year round.
