Rockefeller Center: Is it worth visiting?
Rockefeller Center in New York City is a complex of 19 different historic buildings spread over three city blocks. And is located between West 48th Street and West 51th Street in Midtown Manhattan.
Rockefeller Center
Rockefeller Center is a city within a city and named after John D. Rockefeller, whose family built the site during the Great Depression from 1930 to 1939. The complex is 89,000 m2 and consists of 19 buildings spread over three city blocks. It contains landmarks such as Top of the Rock, Rockefeller Plaza, Radio City Music Hall, the Comcast Building, and in the winter an ice skating rink and the famous Christmas tree. In addition, Rockefeller Center also has an underground concourse with a variety of shops, restaurants, works of art and subway access.
Top of the Rock
The Top of the Rock in New york is the centerpiece of the famous Rockefeller Center and is built in the shape of an ocean liner. And this iconic building is among the best observation decks in New York. It has 66 floors, is 266 feet tall and it offers impressive views of Lower Manhattan as well as Central Park and Uptown Manhattan. Rockefeller Plaza
Rockefeller Plaza is the heart of Rockefeller Center and is located between 49th and 50th Street. In the winter months, the iconic Rockefeller Center ice skating rink is located here. The ice rink was originally built for a movie, but has now become so popular that it has been decided to return the rink annually to Rockefeller Plaza. In the summer the ice rink regularly turns into a rocking roller skating rink from the 80s.
Radio City Music - Hall Rockefeller Center in New york
Radio City Music Hall in New York, also called ‘Showplace of the Nation’, is a concert and theater venue that opened in 1932 and is part of Rockefeller Center. The Radio City Music Hall building is known worldwide for its beautiful Art Deco interior and symbolic exterior art. In addition, the Radio City Music Hall is the largest indoor theater in the world. The Great Stage is no less than 48 meters long and has a height of 25 meters and offers more than 5,900 seats. And almost all the big stars have performed here before.
NBC Studios - Rockefeller Center in New york
The NBC Studios are part of the Rockefeller Center complex on Sixth Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets. Since the 1990s, various programs and live shows for NBC have been recorded here, such as Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the Today Show and 30 Rock.
Christmas tree Rockefeller Center in New York

Every year, a huge Christmas tree is placed in the middle of the Rockefeller Center complex between West 48th and 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues, which can be as high as 30 meters. The tree, usually a Norway spruce, is then decorated with approximately 5 miles of multicolored LED lights, which are turned on each year on the Wednesday after Thanksgiving during the popular Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. This event is so popular that it not only draws thousands of people to Rockefeller Center, but it is also watched by millions of people on television.
Comcast Building in New york
The Comcast Building is a 70-story skyscraper, also known as 30 Rockefeller Center. This skyscraper stands in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza and now houses, among other things, the offices of the Rockefeller family. It is also home to the popular Top of the Rock attraction, as well as the NBS studios, The Rainbow Room, the Garden of Nations and many other businesses.
Channel Gardens in Rockefeller Center
This garden, which runs along the Rockefeller Center boardwalk, consists of ponds, sculptural fountains, and numerous beautiful shrubs and plants. This pedestrian promenade runs from 5th Avenue to the heart of the main square and is a great place for window shopping. The design of the gardens changes depending on the season, holiday or event. At certain times of the year you will find palm trees and flowers, and at other times illuminated angels and pine branches.

Prometheus Statue
Above the Lower Plaza stands Prometheus, a gilded statue by Paul Manship. It is considered one of the four most famous statues in America.
Atlas Statue
On Fifth Avenue, directly across from St. Patrick’s Cathedral, stands a huge bronze statue. This is Atlas, an ancient Greek Titan, half man, half god, condemned by Zeus to support ‘heaven’ forever.

Around and below Rockefeller Center you will find many stores where you can enjoy great shopping. Shops such as, The Yankee Clubhouse, FAO Schwarz, LEGO Store, Tiffany Co, Top of the Rock Shop, Tumi and many others are housed here.

Below 30 Rockefeller Plaza you will find dozens of good restaurants where you can eat and drink deliciously. But there are also a number of takeaway restaurants where you can pick up a delicious meal, such as a pizza slice, a salad or a delicious bagel.
