In the shopping center you take the stairs to the 3rd floor and then go to The Edge via the entrance. After showing your ticket, you will need to go to a special area for those doing the City Climb.
Step 2: The City Climb at Edge information space
Once you arrive in the information room of City Climb at Edge, you will be measured and weighed. To do the City Climb, you must be between 1.49 m and 2.04 m tall and weigh a maximum of 140 kg. After measuring and weighing, it is time for a breath test to ensure that you are not under the influence of alcohol. So make sure that if you participate in the City Climb at Edge later in the day, you have not drunk any alcoholic drinks that day.
Step 3: Safety Instructions for City Climb at Edge
After measuring, weighing and alcohol testing, a safety instructor reads and explains the most important safety instructions. At the end you will be asked whether you understood the explanation. After accepting the safety instructions, enter your name, first name and email address on a computer so that the City Climb staff can send you more information and photos.
Step 4: The locker room
After receiving the safety instructions, you will go upstairs to The Edge observation deck to go to the locker room. In the locker room you place your backpack, phone, watch, in short, everything that can fall when you climb into a locker. Then you put on a nice blue jumpsuit and you are almost ready.
Step 5: Putting on the harness
After storing your belongings in a locker and putting on the blue jumpsuit, the City Climb at Edge instructors will put a harness on you. You will see that nothing is left to chance, because after the first instructor has put on your harness, a second instructor will come to check whether the harness fits properly and will adjust it if necessary. The first instructor then returns to attach a security cable, which can only be removed by the instructor. Why are they doing this? Quite simply to prevent accidents and, unfortunately, especially suicides.
Step 6: the climb outside
Before you go outside to start the City Climb at Edge, the harness and safety cables are all thoroughly checked. Then it’s time to go outside.
Step 7: The Cliff
When you arrive outside, you first have to climb a staircase of 32 steps to reach the open-air platform The Cliff. Once you get here, stop and enjoy the breathtaking views of the west side of Manhattan, New Jersey and the Hudson River. You can also lean over on the edge of the building and admire the Vessel and the entire Hudson Yards area.
Step 8: The Apex the highest point of Edge
After admiring the view on The Cliff it is time to climb to the next platform “The Apex”. To reach The Apex you have to climb a staircase with 161 steps and during this climb you can enjoy the view around you. And because the stairs are on the edge of the building, you will probably get an adrenaline rush while climbing to the top.
Step 9: The view from The Apex
