The Top of the Rock in New york is the centerpiece of the famous Rockefeller Center and is built in the shape of an ocean liner. And this iconic building is among the best observation decks in New York.
It has 66 floors, is 266 feet tall and it offers impressive views of Lower Manhattan as well as Central Park and Uptown Manhattan.

Observation decks Top of the Rock

Top of the Rock Has 3 Observation decks and you can therefore see views of New York from the different floors.
The first observation deck is on the 67th floor at 250 meters high, from here through glass panels you have a great view of Manhattan.
The second observation deck is on the 69th floor at a height of 256 meters, and here too you have breathtaking views of the New York skyline.
Both observation decks are outside, and many say this is where you get the best view of the city, as you can also see the famous Empire State Building.
There is also a third observation deck on the 70th floor at a height of 259 meters; here you will find an open-air observatory.

Bring your own binoculars to the opsevation deck if you do not want to depend on the binoculars on the opsevation deck, as they are not free.

The Beam Experience

The Beam, a new experience at Top of the Rock can be found on the second observation deck on the 67th floor.
The Beam is an imitation of the iconic 1932 photograph showing 11 iron workers dangerously lunching on a steel beam, during the construction of Rockefeller Plaza 30.
With the Beam you rise 3 meters into the air and have a great view of Central Park and other parts of New York.

The Skylift

The Skylift has been the newest attraction at the Top Of The Rock since September 2024. The Skylift offers visitors a 360 degree view of the city at a height of 275 meters.

How does The Skylift work at Top of The Rock?

The Skylift is a rotating open-air platform surrounded by plexiglass walls. During the Skylift experience, you ascend approximately 275 meters into the air in a rotating motion. The rotating movement gives you a breathtaking view of New York. you will find the Skylift on the 70 floor of Top Of The Rock.

Is the Skylift Worth It?

Yes, the Skylift is definitely worth it. You have a beautiful 360 degree view of the city. This allows you to take photos that you cannot take at any other viewing platform in New York.

Stores in Top of the Rock

The Top of the Rock is located in Rockefeller Center, and Rockefeller Center is also great for shopping. Here you will find, among others, the FAO Schwarz toy stores and the LEGO Store. You will also find The Shop at NBC Studios here, for merchandise from various NBC productions. Inside, under the buildings, you will find more nice shops where you can buy nice products.

Food and drink

If you visit top of The Rock also visit is the eatery, called The Weather Room. This restaurant has 25 meter high windows where you can enjoy a great view while having a snack or a drink. Also under the buildings of Rockefeller Center you will find even more eateries where you can get something when you visit Top of the Rock.

What is the best time to visit Top Of the rock

The best time to visit this amazing attraction is right when it opens at 9 a.m., because just after it opens at 9 a.m. you will have a more personal experience and be able to admire the beautiful light fall between the skyscrapers, Empire State Building and Midtown.
But even late at night at 8 p.m. you have a great view.
